Poland's Operational Command has announced an increase in aviation activity in response to the massive shelling of Ukraine by Russia. This measure has been taken to safeguard Polish airspace amid the escalating conflict.
According to an official statement posted on X, Polish and allied aircraft have been put into the air, which may lead to increased noise levels, especially in the southeastern part of the country. This action follows intense Russian air activity, which has been conducting missile strikes on targets in Ukraine.
In recent days, there has been a noticeable increase in the frequency and intensity of Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, confirmed by several sources. In one instance, a Russian missile violated Polish airspace for 39 seconds before exiting, as detected by military radars. In response, Poland activated all its air defense and air force systems, emphasizing that the missile would have been shot down if it posed a threat to Polish assets.
These events occur against the backdrop of heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine, where Russian forces have intensified aerial attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure, including the Lviv region, close to the Polish border. Specifically, strikes have targeted energy facilities and civilian targets.
As a NATO member, Poland is responding to these events with heightened vigilance, ramping up its military resources to protect its sovereignty and support regional stability. Polish officials have stated that they will demand explanations from Moscow regarding the airspace violation, underlining the strain in relations between the countries.
In this context, Poland continues to support Ukraine in its fight for independence and territorial integrity while fortifying its defensive positions and preparing for possible further provocations.
